Missing GRACE was founded by Candy and Stephen McVicar in response to the stillbirth of their firstborn daughter Grace due to an umbilical cord issue. It was later determined that Grace was healthy and her life could have been saved with proper medical intervention. The McVicars founded Missing GRACE in order to support families who have experienced a pregnancy or infant loss and to educate healthcare professionals and families about stillbirth and its prevention. The Organization became a 501 (c) (3) Nonprofit in June 2006 and adopted the name Missing GRACE Foundation (MGF). The foundation provides support for: pregnancy and infant losses from conception through to the first year of life, infertility and adoption as well as advocates for proper management of pregnancies for all women. The first GRACE Conference was held in 2003, and is now a biennial event that has drawn families, caregivers, speakers and exhibitors from all around the country.

Stillbirth claims the lives of more than 40,000 babies in the United States each year. Combining the total number of stillbirths, miscarriages and other forms of infant losses in the United States, a staggering one million families are affected each year. MGF partners with the Pregnancy Institute and the National Center for Stillbirth Research to support research and offer programs to decrease infant mortality statistics and give families hope.
